Who doesn’t love love a great firework display? Irrespective if you are planning your own display or attending a controlled public display, make sure your premises remain safe whilst you are out by following a few simple safety steps.
The ONS ( Office for National Statistics ) has released data showing that there is a significant increase in burglaries during this period, particularly as the clocks go back too. This is due to a combination of allowing criminals to work while loud firework displays are in full swing masking the noise from breaking glass combined perfectly with longer bouts of darkness.
Of course, thieves know that people often venture out on bonfire night. So these are some simple tips to help ensure your clients’ homes are more secure:
- Leave a light on and the radio to give the illusion that someone is home, if you are going to a public display
- Put into operation all door and window locks, even the smallest of windows. Do not leave anything to chance.
- It’s obvious but even if a display is being held at the front of your home, please do lock the back including sheds and outbuildings!!
- For general safety advice, go to the public display minimum guidelines section of the .gov website if only for reassurance.
- Make sure that you have complied with security requirements for any cheap empty home insurance, cheapest probate insurance or high value home insurance as these policies tend to have conditions attached to them.
